General Rules and Regulations

In general, the mutual consideration and the sensible and resource-saving use of the facilities and services provided free of charge by the department should be the primary objective. This includes the following basic rules:
  • Be considerate of others, their needs, beliefs, religious feelings and privacy. This includes, for example, avoiding noise, loud conversations and phone calls in the terminal rooms.
  • Leave the rooms as you (hopefully) like to find them. Clearing away your own garbage and empty bottles should be a matter of course. The chairs should also be returned to their old place.
  • Do not manipulate the data of other users, the systems or networks. This includes manipulations of terminals and the connection of private computers to the network infrastructure.
  • Do not commit crimes using the SCI's facilities. Sabotage (hacking) of other people's computers, copyright infringements, insults in newsgroups or forums, fraud offences, etc. are criminal offences and can also cause considerable damage claims.
  • Remember that all activities that originate from your account are first attributed to you. So please make sure that third parties cannot access your account and especially that they cannot learn or guess your password.

For questions and suggestions on the subject area (especially in case of problems with other users) please contact Mr Thees or one of the SCI employees.
