Network access and remote access

How do students of the RPTU in Kaiserslautern come to Internet access ...?

  • From the login servers of SCI or RHRZ you have access to the Internet.
  • A W-LAN is installed on the RPTU campus in Kaiserslautern, which students can use access the Internet with your private computer (notebook with W-LAN adapter) To do so, you will need an RHRZ account (for further information, see here).
  • Students who live in residence halls in Kaiserslautern can use the free Internet connection offered there with their private computer.
  • For a private internet access in your apartment you usually have to find a provider yourself and also pay the costs yourself. When looking for an apartment, you may want to consider whether your landlord offers you a DSL connection or whether a commercial W-LAN network is available.

In order to access RPTU in Kaiserslautern's network services from the Internet, which are only accessible from the RPTU network, you can also register from outside via the VPN and thus temporarily obtain a RPTU network address. You will need an RHRZ account for this purpose.

Note: Do not try to connect directly to the physical TU network in any case!
Such access can cause considerable damage and may be punished as computer sabotage.
This is especially true for the networks in the terminal rooms!
(The networks are monitored for external access and you will not get Internet access from the SCI terminal networks anyway).

How can I log on to the SCI servers from the Internet (or from other computers)?

see also ...

I tried to login with SSH, Telnet, FTP, etc. on one of the non-login machines of SCI and now I can't reach any SCI server.

Please be careful with login attempts on servers that are not part of the education cluster. After some illegal login attempts, your IP address will automatically be completely denied by all SCI computers for a few hours to prevent brute force attacks.

No sound will be output via the terminal.

Unfortunately, this is currently neither possible via X-Session nor NX-Session. Use the Windows or Mac server (sciwins1/mac1) if you need sound output.

On the Linux login servers my USB stick is not displayed.

USB storage devices are not passed through correctly to the Linux server, so unfortunately it is not yet possible to use a USB stick under Linux.
